N8 quality and care

Individually made

Each piece marked *Made to order in Los Angeles* is Handmade and made to order. The process for producing each piece begins at the time of the order. It’s created specifically for the person who placed the order, at the time of their order. N8 doesn’t hold inventory of these items. The timeframe is longer, but the care and quality is higher.

N8 quality and care

Sustainable

Items being handmade and made to order make them more sustainable to produce. There is little to no waste when an item is created. The exact amount of needed fabric is sourced at the time of the order, there is no wasted working hours on pieces that sit unsold, and there is no leftover inventory that oftentimes becomes waste. N8 focuses on quality, timeless pieces over trends so they can be worn over and over and last much longer than fast fashion options. This process inevitably raises the price point of these garments, but we believe it’s our responsibility to take the necessary steps to be a sustainable fashion brand, no matter the cost.
Creativity

Trust your vision

The first step in my creative process is oftentimes the most difficult. Finding the inspiration for a new piece. When it doesn’t find me, I need to make it.

I lay out new fabric swatches, fabrics I have used in the past, pull up artists I love, and start drawing. I draw shapes, lines, colors, thoughts, anything that comes to mind when in that space. Then I start drawing those thoughts on forms in the shape of a garment I would like to create. I will put shoes on that might go with certain fabrics, certain tops and bottoms that have some of the shapes I’m looking for. Just to get the mental map of what im trying to do. Hopefully while doing all of this I find a few fabrics/shapes/thoughts I really like or are at least interesting, to move forward with. And if they don’t pan out, either I can take a bit of it and start anew, or its back to drawing board so to speak.

Frequently Asked Questions

N8 is a sustainable, slow fashion, made-to-order brand. Each piece is individually created beginning at the time of the order and made specifically for the person who ordered it. With it being hand-cut by one individual, and sewn from beginning to end by another individual, the cost per garment increases. These specialists are also all located in Downtown Los Angeles and are paid fair wages based on their role with the production of each garment, which also leads to a more expensive process.  But we feel it’s our responsibility to bring high-quality products, great working environments, and great relationships.  All while still doing our part in not creating more waste, as the fashion industry as a whole is notoriously wasteful.

Made to order means the items are created at the time of the purchase. So the exact amount of fabric needed is sourced, prepared, cut, and sewn together for the specific person that placed the order. So you are not getting an item that has been sitting on the shelf, you are getting one that was just individually cut, sewn, and packaged just for you.

Being made to order means there is as little waste as possible associated with creating each garment. The exact amount of fabric needed is sourced locally (in Los Angeles) at the time of the purchase so virtually no fabric goes wasted and to landfills. We also do our best to reuse any leftover fabric for future samples, garments, or anything else that would keep it from being wasted. The exact amount of working hours, energy consumption, and other materials used are exactly what is necessary to create each garment.  Additionally, this means there is also no inventory that sits on the shelves unused, and potentially wasted/destroyed/shredded or whatever the fast fashion brands do with the leftover garments.

When the order is placed, the fabric is responsibly sourced locally which usually takes a few days to a week to obtain the amount necessary for the garment. Then the cutting and sewing process takes about a week to a week and a half depending on the complexity of the garment and unforeseen timing/availability of the garment makers. They have their own lives and needs, and sometimes their needs outweigh the needs of fashion, and we respect that. Then the quality control, packaging, and shipping take about 1-2 days. Shipping is almost always done USPS priority so depending on where you live, it could take 2-7 days. So that gives us our 3-4 week delivery window.

“You are loved beyond mere words.” Were the last words my father gave to me before he passed. He wrote them in a birthday card to me just 2 days before he got into a motorcycle accident. That is also why they mean so much because it could have been many other things that he had written in the past, some funny, some dumb, some just normal father-son words of encouragement. But these words were special, poetic and changed my life forever. He sent me with them when he left, and I wanted to make sure I sent them with anyone I could. Every N8 garment carries those words on it somewhere.
